Chosen Medium Feedback
Today in my class Context Form and Concept everyone introduced their chosen mediums for the semester, mine being encaustic painting. What struck me most about the feedback from the class about my medium was how irrelevant it was, no one understood what encaustic painting was and therefore had few insights to share with me that I hadn't already considered. However perhaps this lack of knowledge in their part was actually a bigger teaching tool for me than I originally thought. I believe it taught me that my medium is unknown to many artists at this point and so is a perfect medium to bring back into modern art. Originally it was used in traditional portraiture dating back to ancient egypt in 100-300 AD. This medium fascinates me, not only with its unique properties and beauty, but also because of its anonymity.
